Porsche Macan: All Generations, Specs & Buyer’s Guide
Porsche’s best-selling model — from the 2015 VR6-powered compact SUV to the 630 hp all-electric Turbo. Every generation, every variant, every key spec in one guide.
The Macan arrived in 2014 and became Porsche’s volume leader within two years. Over 500,000 have been sold globally; in 2019, 22,667 new Macan owners in North America alone dwarfed the 3,880 buyers of the 718 Boxster and Cayman combined. It occupies the compact luxury SUV class and does so with genuinely Porsche-like dynamics. The second generation went fully electric in 2025, built on the 800-volt PPE platform. This guide covers every variant from launch to the present day.
1st Generation Macan — 2015–2018
VW Group MLB platform. 5-door SUV, front-engine, all-wheel drive. 7-speed PDK dual-clutch across all variants. Launch lineup included V6 petrol, V6 diesel, and the range-topping 3.6L Turbo.

Transmission & AWD
7-speed PDK dual-clutch on all variants. Porsche Traction Management (PTM) active all-wheel drive. Rear-biased torque distribution (40/60 front/rear split default).
Interior
7-inch PCM touchscreen. Analogue instrument cluster. Sport Chrono package optional. Interior quality above class average but notably less technology than the 2019+ facelift.
Transfer Case Issue
Known transfer case failures on 2015–2016 models prompted Porsche to issue an extended warranty. Check service records for replacement — post-2017 units have the revised design.
Known Issues — 95B.1 (2015–2018)
- Transfer case — early 95B.1 cars (2015–2016) can fail; Porsche extended the warranty. Verify replacement or check build date carefully
- PDK fluid — must be changed on schedule; neglected units shift poorly at low speeds
- Air suspension (if optioned): compressor wear above 60,000 miles
- Carbon buildup on direct-injection V6 engines — walnut blast recommended
- Park sensor/camera electrics — occasional gremlins on older examples
Macan Facelift — 2019–2021
Significant mid-cycle refresh: new front and rear fascia with LED lighting, 10.9-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, revised engines with petrol particulate filter, and updated chassis tuning.
Engine Options
| Model | Engine | Power | Torque | 0–60 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Macan (base, US market 2017+) | 2.0L EA888 Turbo I4 | 248–261 hp | 273 lb-ft | 6.3 s |

Chassis Updates
Revised suspension geometry improves turn-in response. Electric power steering recalibrated for better on-centre feel. Sportier and more communicative than 95B.1.
