Porsche Taycan: All Variants, Specs & Buyer’s Guide
Porsche’s first production electric car — from 270 hp base to 1,093 hp Turbo GT with a 1.9-second 0–60. Every variant, battery spec, range figure, and generation update covered.
The Taycan launched in 2019 as Porsche’s first fully electric production car — and immediately set the benchmark for performance EVs. It introduced the 800-volt charging architecture that enabled 270 kW DC fast charging before any competitor was above 150 kW. The 2025 mid-cycle refresh added up to 35% more range, a 320 kW peak charge rate, and reengineered motors. Today the Taycan spans sedan, Sport Turismo, and Cross Turismo body styles across nine trim levels from 402 hp to 1,093 hp.
First Generation Taycan — 2020–2024
91J chassis. Launched with Turbo and Turbo S models (2020), followed by 4S (2020), base RWD (2021), GTS (2022), and Turbo GT (2024). Cross Turismo wagon added mid-2021; Sport Turismo 2022.

| Performance Battery Plus | 105.2 kWh | 97.0 kWh | 270 kW | Standard on Turbo S; optional on 4S+ |
Variant Specs — Gen 1
| Model | Motors | Power (OB) | 0–60 | Top Speed | Range |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taycan (base) | Rear only (RWD) | 402 hp | 5.1 s | 143 mph | 246 mi |
| Taycan 4 | Dual (AWD) | 469 hp | 4.0 s | 155 mph | 254 mi |
| Taycan 4S | Dual (AWD) | 563 hp | 3.8 s | 155 mph | 235 mi |

| Taycan Turbo GT | Dual (AWD) | 1,019 hp | 2.2 s | 161 mph | 233 mi |
800-Volt Architecture
The Taycan’s 800V system (vs. the industry-standard 400V) enables smaller, lighter cabling and dramatically faster DC charging. At a 350 kW Ionity station, Gen 1 Taycan charges at up to 270 kW — 5% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes.
Two-Speed Rear Gearbox
The Taycan uses Porsche’s in-house developed 2-speed gearbox on the rear motor — an industry first. First gear maximises launch acceleration; second gear reduces motor RPM at highway speed, improving efficiency and extending range.
Turbo GT — Nürburgring Record
The 2024 Taycan Turbo GT set the production EV lap record at the Nürburgring. With the Weissach Package, 0–60 drops to 2.1 seconds and 1,093 hp is available through Launch Control. PDK-like responses with electric motor torque vectoring.
2025 Taycan Refresh — Updated Range & Power
Comprehensive mid-cycle update with reengineered motors, larger battery cells, revised thermal management, and peak DC charging rates rising to 320 kW. Up to 35% more range than Gen 1 equivalent.
Variant Specs — 2025 Refresh
| Model | Power (OB) | 0–60 | EPA Range | Battery |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taycan (base) | 402 hp | 4.5 s | up to 318 mi | 97.0 kWh |
| Taycan 4 | 469 hp | 4.5 s | up to 288 mi | 97.0 kWh |
| Taycan 4S | 563 hp | 3.5 s | up to 295 mi | 97.0 kWh |
| Taycan GTS | 590 hp | 3.1 s | up to 283 mi | 97.0 kWh |
| Taycan Turbo | 670 hp | 2.5 s | up to 292 mi | 97.0 kWh |

| Taycan Turbo GT | 1,093 hp | 1.9 s (Weissach) | up to 276 mi | 97.0 kWh |
320 kW Peak DC Charging
The 2025 Taycan charges at up to 320 kW at compatible 800V stations. At 150 kW stations, 10–80% takes approximately 33 minutes. AC Level 2 at 11 kW takes ~11.5 hours for a full charge.
Range Improvement
Reengineered motors with reduced internal friction, optimised battery cell chemistry, and improved thermal management deliver up to 35% more range. Base Taycan: up to 318 miles (vs. 246 on Gen 1).
Interior Updates
Revised PCM interface and additional driver modes. The Taycan’s interior architecture (curved widescreen cluster, passenger display) carries over — it was already class-leading. Battery warranty: 8 years / 100,000 miles, retaining at least 70% capacity.
Taycan Body Styles
The Taycan platform supports three distinct body styles across the same chassis and powertrain lineup.
Taycan Sedan
4-door fastback. Lowest roof, lowest drag coefficient, best range. Available in all trim levels from base RWD to Turbo GT. The original body style.
Taycan Sport Turismo
Shooting brake wagon (2022+). Sedan-height ride, extended roofline, larger cargo area. Same suspension tuning as the sedan. Available base through Turbo S. Best balance of practicality and on-road focus.
Taycan Cross Turismo
Raised ride height (+30mm), wider wheel-arch cladding, all-wheel drive mandatory. Slight range penalty vs. sedan. Available 4, 4S, GTS, Turbo, Turbo S. For buyers who want occasional light-terrain capability or a more rugged aesthetic.
