Every Porsche is delivered with a driver’s manual (the Betriebsanleitung) that documents every system in the car. Porsche publishes these for free. This is our index of official Porsche owner’s manuals, diagnostic documents and coding references — organised by model, with a guide to finding the exact manual for your VIN.
A Porsche owner’s manual is the factory reference for a specific model and model-year range. It covers controls and instruments, driving systems (PASM, PTM, PDCC, Launch Control), the PCM infotainment system, warning lights, tyre and fluid specifications, and emergency procedures. It is not a workshop manual — it does not contain repair procedures or torque figures. How to Find Your Porsche Owner’s Manual
The printed manual in the car
Every Porsche ships with a printed driver’s manual in the glovebox or under-boot document wallet, along with a quick-reference booklet and the warranty / service book. It is matched to the car’s build, so a manual that came with the car is the most accurate one.
Porsche’s official driver’s manual portal
Porsche hosts current owner’s manuals online. You enter your 17-character VIN and it returns the exact manual for that vehicle’s model year and equipment. This is the definitive source for model years from roughly 2017 onward; coverage of older cars is patchy, which is why archive PDFs still matter.
Inside the car (PCM)
On most Porsche models from 2017 on, the full owner’s manual is built into the PCM — open the main menu and look for Owner’s Manual or the (i) info tile. It is searchable and linked to the warning-light that is currently showing.
My Porsche app
The My Porsche app (and the My Porsche web account) lists the documents tied to your VIN once the car is registered to you, including the driver’s manual and any recall or technical bulletins.
Match the manual to your car. Porsche revises manuals every model year and prints market-specific and equipment-specific versions. A 2013 Cayenne S manual is not interchangeable with a 2016 Cayenne GTS manual — menu structures, assistance systems and even warning symbols change. Always confirm the model year and, where possible, the options list before relying on a downloaded PDF.
Read Your Porsche VIN & Model Code
The VIN tells you which manual you need. It is on the windscreen lower edge (driver’s side), on a sticker in the driver’s door jamb, and in the service book.

In a Porsche VIN, characters 4–8 identify the model and body, character 10 is the model-year letter, and the last six digits are the sequential serial number. The model-year letter runs on a rolling cycle — for example G = 2016, H = 2017, J = 2018, K = 2019, L = 2020, M = 2021, N = 2022, P = 2023, R = 2024, S = 2025.
Brochures & Sales Catalogues
Sales brochures are a different document from the owner’s manual — they show the range, colours, options and specifications for a given model year. Each model guide carries an archive of official Porsche brochures going back years.

Are Porsche owner’s manuals free?
Yes. Porsche provides the driver’s manual with every new car and makes current manuals available online at no charge through its official driver’s manual portal and the My Porsche account. Archive PDFs for older models, like the ones linked on this page, are also free.
Where do I download an official Porsche owner’s manual?
For model years from around 2017, use Porsche’s official driver’s manual site and enter your VIN. For earlier cars, Porsche’s online coverage is incomplete, so an archived factory PDF matched to your exact model year is usually the practical option — see the manuals by model above.
What is the difference between an owner’s manual and a workshop manual?
The owner’s manual (driver’s manual) explains how to operate the car and what the warning lights mean. A workshop or repair manual contains disassembly procedures, torque specifications and wiring diagrams and is aimed at technicians. Porsche’s official workshop information is sold through the Porsche technical information portal; the diagnostic and coding documents on this page sit between the two.
How do I know which manual is right for my Porsche?
Start with the VIN. Characters 4–8 give the model and body style and character 10 gives the model year. Match both to the manual — a facelift within the same generation (for example Cayenne 958.1 versus 958.2) can have a different manual.
Can I get a manual for a classic air-cooled 911?
Original owner’s manuals for air-cooled cars (911, 912, 930, 964, 993) were reprinted by Porsche and are available as reproductions from Porsche Classic and specialist suppliers. Scanned copies circulate in owner communities — the 911 guide covers which reference material exists for each generation.
