Short answer: Yes, you can now add wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to a 991.1 Porsche 911 with a factory part. In 2026 Porsche Classic launched a new PCCM Plus (Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus) for the 911 Type 991.1 and Boxster/Cayman Type 981 (model years 2012–2016). It replaces the original PCM 3.1 with a 7-inch touchscreen unit and keeps the steering-wheel controls and instrument-cluster displays working. It is sold and fitted through Porsche Centres. US availability is expected in early 2027. Porsche has not published a price.

What Is PCCM Plus?
PCCM stands for Porsche Classic Communication Management. It is Porsche Classic’s range of factory retrofit infotainment units for older Porsches. Each unit is designed to look like original equipment in a specific car’s dashboard while adding modern features such as smartphone mirroring, current navigation and digital radio. (Its name echoes PCM, Porsche Communication Management, the factory infotainment system in newer cars. Our PCM guide explains PCM versions and coding.)
Until 2026 the PCCM range covered older 1-DIN and 2-DIN cars such as the 996, 986, 997.1, 987.1 and first-generation Cayenne. The 2026 generation is the first to reach the 991.1, 981, 997.2 and 987.2. Porsche says that covers more than 300,000 cars.
Why the 991.1 Needed It
The 991.1 (2012–2016) left the factory with PCM 3.1 (or the simpler CDR-31 radio in some markets). PCM 3.1 predates smartphone mirroring: it has no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and its navigation maps and Bluetooth audio feel dated today. The facelifted 991.2 (2017–2019) switched to PCM 4.0 with Apple CarPlay as standard, but still no Android Auto. Until now, 991.1 owners who wanted CarPlay had to use third-party interface boxes.
PCCM Plus vs PCM 3.1 vs PCM 4.0
| Feature | PCM 3.1 (991.1 factory) | PCM 4.0 (991.2 factory) | PCCM Plus (991.1 retrofit) |

| Apple CarPlay | No | Yes (wired) | Yes (wireless) |
| Android Auto | No | No | Yes (wireless) |
| Screen | 7-inch | 7-inch | 7-inch high-resolution touchscreen |

| Digital radio | Market-dependent option | DAB (Europe) | DAB (Europe) / HD Radio (North America) |

Is My Car Compatible?
Porsche Classic lists two 2026 PCCM Plus units, each matched to a dashboard layout:
- 991.1 / 981 unit: 911 Type 991.1 (2012–2016) and Boxster/Cayman Type 981 (2012–2016).
- 997.2 / 987.2 unit: 911 Type 997.2 (2009–2013) and Boxster/Cayman Type 987.2 (2009–2013).
Older cars use earlier PCCM Plus units: there are separate versions for the 997.1/987.1, the 996/986 and the first-generation Cayenne, with wired CarPlay and Android Auto. Porsche hasn’t published a variant-by-variant exclusion list for the new units. Before ordering, give your VIN to a Porsche Centre to confirm the fit, especially for GT, Turbo and right-hand-drive cars and for cars with a factory sound system upgrade.
What Do You Keep After the Retrofit?
- Steering-wheel controls: the multifunction steering wheel continues to work.
- Instrument cluster: navigation instructions and music information still appear in the cluster screen.
- Vehicle data: an extended trip computer adds oil temperature and oil pressure views.
- Parking aid: visual parking aid graphics are supported on the Boxster/Cayman.
- Factory look: the unit is designed to fit the original dashboard opening, so the interior stays original-looking. That matters for collector value.
How Much Does PCCM Plus Cost for a 991?
Porsche has not published a price for the 991.1/981 or 997.2/987.2 units, and they were not listed in Porsche’s online shop at the time of writing. Expect to pay for the unit plus fitting labour at a Porsche Centre. Ask for a written, fitted quote that includes any adapter harness and coding. We will update this guide when official pricing appears.
PCCM Plus vs Aftermarket CarPlay Interfaces
The main alternative is a third-party interface module (for example from Beat-Sonic or GTA) that keeps the original PCM 3.1 and adds a CarPlay/Android Auto layer behind it.
| PCCM Plus | Aftermarket interface | |
|---|---|---|
| Source | Genuine Porsche Classic part | Third-party module |
| Head unit | Replaces PCM 3.1 | Keeps PCM 3.1 (reversible) |
| Built-in navigation | New, with online updates | Old PCM 3.1 maps (or use phone navigation) |
| Fitting | Porsche Centre | Specialist installer or DIY |
| Best for | Owners who want a factory solution and modern navigation | Owners who want to keep the original unit untouched |
Should You Fit PCCM Plus to Your 991.1?
Yes, if you use your 991.1 regularly and want wireless CarPlay or Android Auto, current maps and better audio streaming without non-Porsche parts. A genuine Porsche Classic part keeps the interior original-looking.
Maybe not, if your car is a low-mileage collector car you want to keep exactly as delivered. In that case, keep the original PCM 3.1 with the car (or choose a reversible interface module) so it can be returned to factory specification.
Either way, keep the removed PCM 3.1 unit: it is part of the car’s original specification.
